I'm writing my next picture book manuscript, and I'm considering structures, such as "Classic" (hero's journey), "Question and Answer", and "Parallel". Parallel intrigues me, as two stories are written to occur simultaneously. Given my next picture book has two main characters with colliding interests, I'm considering Parallel.
Author/Illustrator David McPhail wrote MOLE MUSIC (available at Barnes & Noble). This sweetly illustrated picture book offers an excellent example of "Parallel" structure. While a single character, Mole, plays violin underground, a war is stopped above ground by his beautiful sound.
